Craigavon Archive
It was the first and only planned settlement in Northern Ireland. Only half of the new city of Craigavon was ever built and most of that has now been demolished. Styled in utopian 1960's British Modernism, the project was to bridge two towns in a time of sectarian violence and conflict; uniting them under a new identity. The image documents an on-going arts research project that explores the many narratives associated with the lost city of Craigavon. The development was rigorously documented from 1966 to 1983. However, due to the on-going complications attributing to its failure and the controversy surrounding the land ownership and funding, much of this evidence had disappeared. This archive was found and rescued from a skip.
