Canvas Pattern

Detail of the disposition of cellulosic fibres sampled from the lining, removed during conservation, of an original French easel painting. Scanning Electron Microscopy was performed in order to characterise the damage and deterioration of the canvas due to simple ageing and previous conservation treatments. The image was captured under a Philips XL30 FEG-SEM. The obtained digital image was then coloured with Photoshop CS5.
