Mr Jonathan Gardner, Institute of Archaeology

Unisphere

The Unisphere is one of the few surviving elements of the second New York World's Fair held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens in 1964-5. The massive structure was built to signify the Fair's theme of 'Peace Through Understanding' and now also serves as a memorial to the event itself. This image was taken as part of doctoral research that investigates the long-term material traces of mega events both in New York and London.
