Elite network

Exploring how members of the public institutions interact with each other is important in order to understand how policy interests and political influence are manifested. This image shows a network of the 639 Members of the House of Commons during the 2012-13 Parliamentary Session. A connection between two Members implies that they have attended the same university. The highly connected cluster on the upper left side identifies Oxford graduates, while the smaller cluster on the lower left represents Cambridge alumni. The network suggests a system of Members of the Parliament dominated by elite university graduates. Image produced as part of the research project 'Mapping policy with big data', funded by UCL Grand Challenges.
