X-Ray of a Headland

The 3DIMPact research group from the CEGE Department were asked by UCL's Institute of Archaeology and Jersey Heritage to capture a whole headland, La Cotte de St Brelade on the Island of Jersey, to aid them with engineering works being undertaken to preserve a site of archaeological importance. The capture was done with 3D Laser Scanning and required 40 scans capturing over half a billion point measurements. This image shows a rendered view looking east of the final pointcloud data along the main ravine which rises over 50m from the foreshore. This image is deliberately ghostly as the points have been rendered with less density so that the cave under the arch (centre left) can be seen in context with the rock structures surrounding it.
