A sudden rise in the price and demand for kelp algae in the Asian market has attracted people from dubious backgrounds, many prosecuted by law, to extract this resource without control from the most remote areas of the desert in the coast of Peru. This character was found alone in the beach, in the middle of the desert where there are no roads, at least four hours away from the nearest village by car – without a car. The picture was taken during a reconnaissance trip of the buffer zone of Punta Lomas, a marine protected area in the coast of Peru that forms part of my study area.
