Lost in Translation

This image shows a page from a declassified archival source on a German war criminal, found during my PhD-research in a U.S. archive. It refers to some summary of a translation from German (into English) and demonstrates the obstacles and limits of archival research. The absurdity and uselessness of procedures of initial interrogation, its translation, then classification, and eventually, the declassification and censorship of the declassified files, before finally released for historical research, cannot be better represented than by a source like this one.
