Pressure ridges in sea ice at the Fram Strait
Floe 004 was the eighth in a series twenty six individual ice floes which were 3D scanned by ScanLAB as part of a scientific expedition to the Arctic in September 2011. The floe was scanned at exactly 19:01:00hrs on the 15th September as it drifted at 79 30.167 N 002 10.358 W on the edge of the ice pack in the Fram Strait. As the smallest floe analysed during the expedition Floe 004 measured 75 meters by 50 meters with a maximum depth of 4.3 meters. Less than a year old the floe is first year sea ice, frozen in the Fram Strait last winter. As part of the science expedition its surface was 3D scanned in millimetre detail, depth measurements were taken across the floe and core samples extracted. This data has been complied to create a complete digital model of the floe.
