Lone mangrove

I found this lone mangrove seedling sprouting from the red mud in northwestern Australia whilst cannon-netting shorebirds for ringing. This involves herding birds along the beach (a process called twinkling) into the firing line of a weighted net, which is shot from two cannons over the flock. This little plant, a kilometre or so from the nearest mangrove forest seemed like a more peaceful scene in what was a hectic day of trapping.
